LARGO -- Police are investigating two recent armed holdups, one that investigators attribute to a group responsible for a recent robbery rampage and a second committed by a man who left his victim with a rhyme and a holiday greeting.

The first crime occurred just after 9 a.m. Saturday at U & V Discount Beverages, 200 East Bay Drive. Two men, one armed with a silver revolver, entered the business and demanded cash. The armed man barked out orders while the other man emptied the register. The men also snatched two cartons of cigarettes before fleeing.

Police say the robbers may have been involved in three other robberies in Largo during the last three weeks. A third man is thought to be an accomplice in those robberies.

One robber wore a red, white and blue bandana over the bottom of his face and a white T-shirt and blue jeans. The other wore a black ski mask and brown gloves with the fingertips cut off.

Police think one of the businesses previously held up by the robbers was the Texaco Majik Mart, 17218 U.S. 19 N, which was robbed Dec. 27.

On Tuesday, the business was robbed again, this time by a man police don't think is connected to the group responsible for the recent string.

The man entered the business just after 9 p.m., pulled a nylon stocking over his face, flashed a silver handgun and told the clerk: "Guess what honey, give me all your money."

The clerk handed over cash. The robber took the money, wished the clerk a merry Christmas and left.

He was black, 35 to 40 years old, 5-feet-7 and 165 pounds. He had dark eyes, a stubbly gray beard and was last seen wearing a gray flannel shirt and dark jeans.

Anyone with information about either of these holdups is asked to call Largo police at 587-6730.
