PETERSBURG -- The home of Larry Beltz, an attorney specializing in nursing home abuse and neglect, was burglarized on New Year's Eve. Stolen were a camera and jewelry, including a Rolex watch, police said. The property is valued at between $12,000 and $20,000, police said. At 11:04 p.m. Monday, officers responded to a burglar alarm at the home on Brightwaters Boulevard NE. When they arrived, they discovered a window broken. No arrest has been made. Ohio man dies in I-75 crash near BrandonBRANDON -- A man was killed Wednesday on Interstate 75 near State Road 60, authorities said. Carl T. Hoffman, 71, of Berberton, Ohio, was driving south at 12:30 p.m. when he lost control of his 1986 Ford, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The car swerved into the median and overturned. Two passengers in Hoffman's car, Jesse Harmen, 13, and Rose Harmen, 14, both of Lakeland, were taken to Brandon Regional Hospital. All three wore seat belts, troopers said. PETERSBURG -- A crowd is expected today at 9 a.m. for the final public hearing on city ordinance amendments that would protect people against discrimination based on sexual orientation. Equality Florida has rallied people to attend to back the changes, which would protect people from bias in housing, employment or public accommodations based on their real or perceived homosexuality, bisexuality or heterosexuality.
