CLEARWATER - A man was shot during a robbery as he walked to his home at Jasmine Courts apartments early Easter morning.

An armed robber confronted Jessie Johnson, 50, about 1 a.m. Sunday. Johnson lunged at the robber and tried to wrestle away the gun, but it fired. A bullet hit Johnson's left thigh, exited and pierced his right thigh, police said. The robber took money from Johnson and fled. A description of the suspect was not available.

Johnson was taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center, where he is expected to recover, police said.
