Citing health, fire chief retires after 21 yearsBy Times staff writer
© St. Petersburg Times, LAND O'LAKES -- Fire Chief Thomas Mock has retired from the Land O'Lakes Volunteer Fire Department after serving for more than 21 years. Citing health problems and the desire to spend more time with his family, he announced his retirement during a board of directors meeting Monday night at the fire station. Michael Byrne will take command until the annual meeting of the membership in February. The department maintains its firefighting equipment and station using voluntary subscriptions from the Land O'Lakes area. No tax money is used. There are 30 firefighters on staff, including first responders, emergency medical technicians and paramedics. Anyone interested in joining the department may call (813) 996-2610. State-approved training is available for a variety of support roles. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
