Students shone at festival

Editor: We would like to thank the Honor Society and Spanish Club students at Ridgewood High School, and students from Marchman Technical Education Center who volunteered to work our Fall Festival at Chasco Elementary School on Oct. 26.

These students were extremely helpful running the festival games for the students and served as wonderful role models for our students.

The students were patient, well-mannered, and dressed very nicely for the event.

We were very proud to have the students from Ridgewood and Marchman volunteer at our school and look forward to their assisting us with future events.

We would also like to thank the teachers who serve as sponsors for these student groups. A big Chasco Elementary thanks to Mrs. Anders and Mrs. Williams from Ridgewood and Mrs. Wasp from Marchman for their support and coordination of the student volunteers.
-- Debora Wichmanowski, assistant principal, Chasco Elementary School

Marine Band show was fantastic

Editor: I want to thank the St. Petersburg Times for sponsoring the "President's Own" Marine Band concert Nov. 3 at the Center for the Arts at River Ridge.

We were lucky enough to get tickets to see the fantastic performance. We live in Spring Hill, and it was nice to have such high quality entertainment so near to us.

Sheriff's help valuable to Police Athletic League

Editor: I would like to thank the sheriff of Pasco County, Bob White, and his staff for their support of the Police Athletic League. Although Sheriff White is new to PPAL, he and his staff work very hard to understand what we are all about.

Some items on the sheriff's agenda are to get the department more involved with the kids in PPAL. This year the deputies patrolled the parking lot,and even entered the fields to meet with the parents and kids themselves. The sheriff hopes to make this common with the deputies. I can only imagine what he has in mind for the future, but so far this sheriff seems to understand the importance of our children and how much this league needs to exist.

When I first met Sheriff White at our annual jamboree that kicks off the PPAL season, he was in total awe about the atmosphere around the stadium at River Ridge High School. The excitement in the air was more than I could write on paper. I knew at that time this sheriff would do all he could to further our cause with the PPAL. Thank you, Sheriff White and staff.
-- Kyle Tirrell, Port Richey, vice president of operations, PPAL
